Four years ago today, I lost my second baby. I was only 4 months post partum, and 6.5 weeks pregnant when I suffered an ectopic rupture. It was, hands down, the most terrifying moment in all my life. The entire situation took a toll on me, both physically and emotionally. It was just two days be for Elizabeth's first Thanksgiving, and the holiday season. I tried so hard to be the happy and excited new mom that I was before it happened. Some days were easier than others.

My very good friend Jill sent me this Christmas ornament along with a wonderfully written letter that I will cherish always. It's the 2003 Hallmark ornament, Words of Love with little hearts that read: Baby Cakes / Sweetie, Lovers / Friends, Kiss me /Sexy
Je t'adore / Je t'aime, Always / Forever, My princess / My prince,
My Inspiration / Soul Mate

Very few objects in my life mean as much to me as this ornament. I proudly hang the little hearts surrounding the special family ornaments in the front/center of the tree.

The day after Thanksgiving we went to a local playground. It was so cold, but we had such a great time. Charles made us laugh so hard when he went down one of the kids slides. His crocks got stuck, and screached so loud it echoed through the park. I caught it all on video. We laughed and laughed and laughed. The funniest part was that you can hear my mom howling in the background and she was really far away.

Anyway, no video uploaded, but here are a few pictures for my 365 for today.

It was Elizabeth and Mommy Day! I took her to get her nails done for the first time. She loved it.

Later, we went to B&BW to buy some hand soap. Then we went to the library where she got her very own library card. After that, we went out for an ice cream cone. What fun!

Today was Elizabeth's Thanksgiving Celebration with her Pre-K class. To switch things up a bit, I'm adding a video. It's poor quality, poor audio, but she's 4, and she's cute no matter what. Even if she is standing next to the trash can.

Yeah, that's right .... Haven't you ever seen a chocolate-faced 22 month old pumpkin toddler pushing a 4 year sister old holding a chair in a stroller made for a doll? Come on, where have you been? Life at our house is happy, but far from normal, and never, ever boring.

We left the kids with my parents and off we went. First stop - a 4hour cruise down the Tennessee River to enjoy the fall foliage and a nice afternoon together sans kids.

We had a weekend away planned. We left Friday night and headed to my parent's house about an hour and a half away. About 30 minutes into our drive and we got a flat tire on the highway. We were in the fast lane too... I had to think quick and get over 3 lanes of traffic, but I did it. It was dark, and scary... I pulled off the shoulder as far as I could. Thank GOD it was an 'inside' tire. I called 911, they transfered me to GA State Patrol who told me I was pretty much on their own and they wouldn't send someone out to stay with us while we changed the tire. I quickly got the girls' shoes on and unbuckled them. We walked through the brush, and up the bank where we perched ourselves and ducked down and waited. We did everything we could not to distract the drivers who were FLYING past Charles. I was so scared. At one point I thought "No way is it my destiny to witness something as awful as someone hitting my husband (and dog) with my children watching." I convinced myself there was just no way I'd be subjected to something that awful. So there we sat... on the hill, ... in the dark.... watching the cars fly by. Elizabeth and I said the Lord's prayer and sang songs while Caroline fell asleep BFing.... I took pictures only when there was a break in traffic in an effort to make sure the flash didn't distract the drivers.

Here we are sitting on the bank watching the oncoming traffic...

you can see Caroline in this one.

and here's Charles changing the tire.

The whole experience was terrifying. Elizabeth was so brave. She is my champion.

I've been working too damn much lately. I hate it. I hate every single minute of it. Just another late lonely night in the office. :( The lights automatically go out at 6:00pm. Some nights I just don't feel like going and turning them on again.

Caroline, in her princess gown, got tired of waiting for me to clean the kitchen before going to bed. My sweet baby. I love her so much.

I know you guys are totally getting sick of pictures of me at my desk at work, but gracious, that's where I am most of the time. Sorry. It's my year. At least it's being documented true to form.

I have a little mirror here so I can see when someone walks up behind me. I may take this view again another day. I can get a better picture than this....

When I was expecting my first child, someone made me a stack of burp cloths. They were cloth diapers with hand-stitched crocheted boarders. They were my all time favorite baby gift. Aside from them being homemade, as a mother of a spitter, they were super useful. I used to LOVE to match them to her outfits when we went out each day. We never left the house with out one. As she got older, they turned into her 'loveies'. So, instead of having that one special lovie that you're paranoid at the thought of losing, I had a stack of them. Here we are, over 4 years later, and the addition of a second stack of them for when Caroline was born, and the burp cloth is still a part of our every day life. The girls have them everywhere, in bed, in the car, in their backpacks for school... they even use them as blankets for their dolls now.

Ever since I received my first batch of them, I have been making them for friends and family. My cousin Alicia is expecting her first child, a boy, later this week. I just put the finishing touches on her burp cloths and packed them up to ship. Here's a picture. (Admitedly, not my best batch ever, but they'll do).

I'm taking a calculated risk posting these. I'm hoping Alicia is busy delivering a beautiful healthy baby right now and won't see this post until after she receives her package. If she does see this first, then, Happy New Baby Alicia. I hope you like the burp cloths! LOL!

My co-worker just found out the baby she's carrying is a girl. She's due in March. I'm logging off here and beginning my next batch - for her.

Fun Friday assignment for today was "Wear your favorite silly hat." The 18,000 hats we have wouldn't do, so of course, I had to make one. . while standing in my kitchen Friday morning.

She loved it.

Note: You'd think I'd be ashamed of my garage. Honestly, I just shake my head in exhaustion and wonder when I'm going to have the time to do anything about it. All I did ALL weekend was play with my kids and clean my house. I never did make it out to the garage. Blah.

Anyway... carry on.

Caroline is a tenacious little girl. Already so set in her ways. Already so fiercely opinionated. Today was no different. Last night while getting ready for bed she ran across a sun-dress. After offering various other outfits for bed, it became abundantly clear the sun-dress was the nightgown of choice. Then the morning came.... and it's cold out.... and.. there were tears. Lots of tears.... and in the end. We both won. Shirt/pants (my choice), sun-dress (her choice). I actually didn't manage to pry the sun-dress off of her until Friday morning.

The face of victory...

Man, I've either got to stop taking pictures as everyone is leaving for the day or I have GOT to clean out that garage. *blush*
